Northern Vietnam

Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sapa Areas

Summer – May to October – Average temperature: 24-33 C – Average rainfall: 240 mm – Inland is hot and humid, coastal areas are breezy. Rain showers to be expected. Dress in light clothes, they’ll dry quickly or carry light rain gear or an umbrella.

Winter – November to April – Average temperature: 16-23 C – Average rainfall: 40 mm – Usually dry in first half of this season, but starts to drizzle in February and March. Rain gear is needed. Warm clothes are recommended to travel to hill/mountain areas.

Central Vietnam

Lowlands and Highlands: Dalat, Hue, Hoian, Nha Trang Areas

Summer – May to October – Average temperature: 23-24 C – Average rainfall: 200 mm – The central Vietnam is comprised lowland and highland areas. The weather is fairly similar across both, although the highlands tend to be cool with more rain as the majority of rain normally falls on the mountains before arriving in the drier lowlands. September brings more rain to the lowlands with the possibility of typhoons.

Winter – November to April – Average temperature: 17-23 C – Average rainfall: 95 mm – The highlands are cooler and rainier than the lowlands.

Southern Vietnam & Mekong Delta

Saigon, Bin Thuen Areas

Summer – May to November Average Temperature: 24–31 C – Average rainfall: 265mm – Hot, humid and rainy but heavy downpours are usually short lived.

Winter – December to April Average Temperature:22-33 C – Average rainfall: 25mm – Remains hot and humid, although humidity levels are more bearable between December and February. During April and May the southwest monsoon winds bring rain showers to the Mekong Delta and southern Vietnam.

In general, Vietnam weather in November and December is mostly mild, with increased chances of rain. Because of temperatures, most Vietnam travel takes place during these months.
