Trip Advisor has named Hanoi, Vietnam the best travel value for US travelers.
“Hanoi, Vietnam rang up as the most affordable travel spot globally for U.S. travelers, with a TripIndex cost of $141.”
Budget/Bargain travelers should not let this number (US$141) scare them into not traveling to Vietnam. Granted, the transportation expense will be a concern – US$1000 and up, depending on where you live in the US. Do some serious airfare shopping before making any other plans.
Once you have made your airline plans, you should be able to cut that US$141 by at least 50%. A real bargain traveler will be able to cut that by as much as 65% or US$35-50 per day. US$15 +/- a day for a hotel and US$10-15 for tourist style food are a good base line for a bargain Vietnam traveler. A true budget traveler can purchase an “open-tour” bus ticket from Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi (or vice versa) for less than US$50.
Doing a bit of “pre-planning” will save you a lot of money while you’re enjoying your trip to Vietnam.
