The Joy Of Backpacking

Backpacking trips are increasing in Vietnam thanks to lots of beautiful landscapes and diverse, low-cost services.

Vietnam boats a wide range of mysterious and adventurous places to discover with low-cost services. So, they are wonderful choices for backpacking trips, especially in the summer season.

On this occasion, Chao! introduces some ideal places for backpacking trips with friends and family.

A safe destination for real relaxation is the first priority when a family sets out on a backpacking trip.

Co To Islet is an example. Depart from Hanoi by Luong Yen-Hon Gai bus at 5.30 p.m. to Van Don mainland in Quang Ninh Province (Bus fare is VND50,000 a person). After an appetizing dinner and a good sleep there, you will travel to Co To Islet by boat at 6:30 a.m., taking three hours. You will be surprised by the beaches there with clean, clear water. Experiencing barbecue parties on the beach, fishing for cuttlefish at night, viewing the sea from the top of the lighthouse and sleeping in a tent on beach are something special.

If you do not have a tent, flats here are available at VND150,000-200,000 for a double room. It costs a total of about VND950,000 for the three-day trip to Co To Islet.

Traveling further in the northern region, you can visit the mountainous area of Moc Chau. Walking around tea farms, taking panoramic views from the mountains, and visiting Dai Yem Waterfall and Bat Cave are activities you can do here.

It is so romantic and beautiful that many couples go there to take wedding photos while others spend their weekends there.

From Hanoi, the Hanoi-Son La bus fare is priced at VND115,000 a person. It costs VND250,000 for a double room at Union-Moc Chau Farm Hotel. You can make a three-day trip to Moc Chau for some VND1-1.2 million a person.

Cham Islet in Quang Nam Province, which is seen as the primary pearl in the central region’s sea, is another interesting choice. From the wharf at Cua Dai in Hoi An Town, it takes some 20 minutes by boat to reach the white beach at the edge of the Cham Islet. With eight small islets shaped in a bow, Cham Islet is really a haven for exploring and relaxing in the region. In the morning, you can take a tourist boat to see the coral reefs or to travel around to view swift nests. Rock crabs are something unique here.

From Danang City, you can go to Hoian Town to visit Cham Islet by motorbike or taxi. It costs some VND400,000 a person a day during your time in Danang and Hoi An.

In the North, families can visit Co To Islet, while Cham Islet is a choice in the central region. In the southern region, Ca Mau can be a good selection. It takes around one hour from HCM City to Ca Mau Town in the southernmost province of Ca Mau by plane or eight hours by bus.

You can travel from Ca Mau Town to Dat Mui (Vietnam’s southernmost tip of land) by canoe to experience traveling on the river and study the lives along the banks. Swimming on Khai Long Beach or following fishermen to catch blood ark-shells are highlights you can enjoy.

It is said that when traveling to Ca Mau, you must visit the U Minh salt-marsh forest.

It costs some VND1 million a person for a three-day trip to Ca Mau.

The mountainous northern province of Ha Giang with rough roads is another possibility, especially for those who want adventure.

In Ha Giang, you can travel to Quan Ba to enjoy the view from the Heaven’s Gate pass, to Yen Minh to see the most beautiful pine forest in Vietnam and to Pho Bang to reach the border between Vietnam and China. Then, Dong Van Highlands is really a challenge for those who want to experience adventure. There, you can climb to Lung Cu – which is known as the roof of Vietnam.

After traveling around viewing the landscape, in the evening you can enjoy the traditional activities of the ethnic people there as well as trying traditional foods and drinks.

The next day you could visit Ma Phi Leng Pass – which is also known as the love pass.

From Hanoi, it costs VND150,000 a person to go to Ha Giang by bus. A motel in Ha Giang, costs VND150,000-200,000 a person per day. So, in total you would spend some VND400,000 a person each day.
