Here is a new page covering over 30 destinations that travelers to Vietnam would be interested in visiting.
VIETNAM TOUR – 30 DESTINATIONS
The first part of the page lists the destinations and if you “click on” the destinations several photos will appear – giving your a quick view.
The lower part of the page is a series of videos – most provided by a fellow on a motorcycle tour of Vietnam. The “Tour” starts in Saigon and close by attractions, then moves north ending in Hanoi and close by attractions.
Vietnam Hotel Questions? I am hesitant to recommend hotels these days. I have been “burned” a couple of times by recommending hotels – changes in the attitude of hotel staff, security problems and incidents of petty theft. I really feel bad when somebody’s camera containing a memory card with all their vacation photos disappears. I encourage travelers to stay at family run tourist hotels. Arriving in a town early allows you to check your hotel(s), inspect the room and get a “feeling” regarding the staff, etc.
If want to arrange accommodations in advance, I recommend HOSTELBOOKERS , I’ve used them for travel to countries other than Vietnam. Tripadvisor.com also is a good source – You can check other travelers experiences and recommendations at TripAdvisor.
Vietnam Transportation – Starting at the most “touristy” are the tour buses – they even have sleeper buses now. You can travel on an “open tour” bus from Saigon to Hanoi, getting on and off in stops as you please, for about US$35. Trains – “Soft Sleeper” is the best travel by rail alternative. The condition in regular seating leaves a great deal to be desired these days – housekeeping maintenance is lacking. Take your own food and “munchies” – RR food is not very appetizing for the average “Western” traveler..
If you go to Sapa / Lao Cai – take an “Oriental Express” style service, even though it might be a bit pricier. Here are some providers; Victoria Express Train, Livitrans Express Train, Ratraco Express Train, Tulico Express Train, Fanxipan Express Train, Royal Express Train, King Express Train, Pumpkin Express Train, Hara Express Train, TSC Express Train, Friendly Express Train
Domestic airfares are a great value in Vietnam, I recommend flying if time is an issue. You probably won’t have this problem. If you can’t find anything of interest between Hanoi and Hue or Danang, you might consider flying. It’s an over night trip by train and 1 – 1.25 hour trip by air.
